Official: OS 5.0.0.732 released by VZW for the BlackBerry Bold 9650

June 11th, 2010

aboutscreen732 Yesterday, we brought you word that Verizon was prepping 732 for an official release, and it looks like they have now gone live with it.  Word is coming in from the forums that it is now available for OTA upgrade, and via Desktop Manager, although it hasn’t posted to the VZW website yet for download.  As always, make sure you back up before upgrading, and if you aren’t sure about this one just yet, check out the forums thread here.

BBStation Provides Radio Streaming (SHOUTCast) Internationally

June 4th, 2010

bbstation_thumb One of the complaints I regularly hear about is how most streaming radio stations only work in the US or just the US/UK/Canada. This is because of annoying copyright restrictions that make it impossible for many companies to provide streaming radio outside of these countries. The only one I know of that has even breached beyond those countries is NOBEX.

Josep and Stefano let me know about a recently released app that provides streaming radio to everybody by using SHOUTCast radio stations. There are over 35,000 SHOUTCast stations out there and all of them are available through the app BBStation. They also let you add you own in case they are missing one you like. The other perk is that BBStation only costs a $4.70 one time fee instead of a subscription and works over GPRS, 3G, & Wi-Fi.

Official OS 5.0.0.621 Now Available for the BlackBerry Bold 9650 from Sprint

May 13th, 2010

*Update: It looks like order has been restored and the OS and device are both listed correctly. The download now shows Bold 9650 and not Tour 9650. You’re welcome Sprint :-) *

Here’s one that was pretty unexpected. It looks like Sprint has released an official OS for the Bold 9650 through the BlackBerry Software Downloads page. The device is slated to drop in just over a week, so its not shocking that this OS has popped up. What is odd however is that Sprint has titled it Tour 9650, not Bold 9650 – proving even carriers are confused by the rebranding. We can safely assume this will be the software that ships on the device, but if you’re looking to get a jump on your Bold 9650 prep you can download it now from the link below. Thanks to Blair for sending this in!

NFL Mobile App Now Available from Verizon Wireless

April 12th, 2010

Capture9_34_37 Verizon this weekend has released the NFL Mobile app for their native devices. Just in time for the NFL draft, the free app brings the latest NFL news, draft news, detailed information about current prospects and more. We assume the app will have some great draft coverage, and during the season will run with scores, schedules, news and all that good stuff. Verizon users can snag it free from mobile.vzw.com/nfl (if you’re on another carrier don’t bother trying to download, I already tried and its a no go). Hit the forums for some more discussion.

iPad development outruns Android, BlackBerry

April 5th, 2010

ipad-photo iPad development is accelerating at a fast enough pace that it’s already eclipsing Android and BlackBerry, a Flurry study found Thursday. Of all the new app projects started in the past three months, 22 percent were for the Apple tablet. The explosion of interest shrunk the proportion of interest in Android from 18 percent in 2009 to just 10 percent in early 2010, while the BlackBerry’s slice of development dropped from four percent to just one.

OS Alert: BlackBerry Bold 9700 OS 5.0.0.442 Released by Telus

March 15th, 2010

telus-bold9700-442

This isn’t anything too crazy, but TELUS got around to launching a new BlackBerry Bold 9700 OS this week. TELUS released OS 5.0.0.442 which was previously leaked on to the internet, and released by other networks around the World. Previously I used .442 and it worked pretty good on my device, although I would recommend checking out the recently leaked OS 5.0.0.545 if you want best results. Anyway if you’re a TELUS customer you can download this OS by connecting your device to BlackBerry Desktop Manager, or by visiting their download page here.
