Help With the BlackBerry Curve

October 29th, 2009

The BlackBerry Curve is a smartphone manufactured by popular cell phone company Research in Motion (RIM) and is available on most major cell phone carriers, including AT&T and Verizon Wireless. If you are having issues with your BlackBerry Curve, there are some easy troubleshooting steps you can take.

Phone Locking Up

One common issue with BlackBerry handsets in general is the occasional lockup. This can be attributed to several issues, including data flooding, network congestion or processing issues. If your screen freezes or your phone stops responding, the best way to remedy the problem is to do a hard reset. To do this, press the battery latch on the back of the phone and pull the battery out. Wait a few minutes, and then plug the battery back in. It will take several minutes for the phone to reboot, but once it does, all functionality should be restored.

Battery Won’t Charge

If you are plugging in your battery, but it isn’t holding a full charge or not charging at all, there is either a problem with the charger or the battery itself. RIM recommends using only BlackBerry-branded chargers, so if you are using a third-party peripheral, try swapping it out for an official one. If you have had your BlackBerry Curve for a while, your battery may be out of date. If the battery is holding less that 50 percent of its original charge, then it needs to be replaced. The faster you can replace the battery, the better, as old cell batteries can swell, which can lead to permanent phone damage.

Data Disappear

If you have noticed that some of your emails, phone logs or text messages have started disappearing, your phone may be running out of memory. To help with this, delete any unnecessary apps from your phone, delete the cache and history in your browser, and consider upgrading your SD memory card in the expansion slot.
