How to clean the cache/memory on your Blackberry

November 25th, 2009

Blackberry basically being a mini computer in your pocket, does get cache. Keystrokes, web searches, address book clutter, and whatever else.

Cleaning out this cache can free up memory and help the device perform alot better. I’ll teach you how to do it periodically or set it up to do it when the phones not in use.

Doing this will greatly improve the overall performance of your phone.

Instructions

Step 1
Go to your Options Menu (Little wrench icon)
Step 2
         Scroll down to Security Options.
Step 3
         Click on Memory Cleaning.
Step 4
         Status should be Enable.
Clear when holstered. Only needed if you use a holster. Which should be a Blackberry holster cause it’s got a magnet in it that reacts to the phone and will activate the memory clean if selected.
Clean when Idle: This is how it will do it periodically for you with out you having to touch anything from here on out. Once the phone goes into idle. It’ll auto clean.
Idle Timeout: You can set how long you want the phone to go untouched before it goes into idle mode. Mines set up for 1min. I figure if I’m not touching my phone for a minute. I don’t want to run and help drain my battery. That option is your choice.
Show Icon on Home Screen: I selected yes. It puts a paper shredder icon on the home screen so when selected it’ll clean the cache and memory.

    Tips & Warnings

Enabled makes it possible to clean the cache.

If you use a holster. Go ahead and select when holstered. The other options below that aren’t important then.

I personally don’t have mine set to clean at idle. I like to control my device and not have it control me. So I put the icon on my home screen. So I can clean it up at will.

If the icon option is selected. Simply locate it. Select it. And it will clean up automatically.
